Knud Holscher - Functionality, simplicity and quality
Danish architect and industrial designer, Knud Holscher, has been part of d line from the very beginning, creating our first coordinated line of architectural hardware in 1971.
After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 1957, where he studied under Arne Jacobsen, Holscher went on to work with his former professor on St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. Frustrated by the lack of cohesive, high-quality hardware available, he set out to design his own, and in doing so, helped shape the modern language of architectural detail.
His award-winning minimalist range for d line began with the now iconic U and L levers, whose distinctive bend continues to influence our product design today. It also marked the first use of AISI 316 stainless steel in hardware, pioneering a new standard for durability and longevity in design.
Since founding Knud Holscher Design in Copenhagen in 1995, he has continued to work with his team, including his architect son Rasmus, on projects that embody the same principle: future-proof design that unites form, function and material integrity. Holscher’s work has earned more than 70 international awards including multiple iF Design Awards dating back to those very first lever handles and doorstops for d line.
The Knud Holscher Collection includes hardware and sanitary ware. The products come with a 20-year guarantee and are available in a wide range of colours and finishes.
