Sticks'n'Sushi Battersea

Set along the Thames, London’s legendary Battersea Power Station has come back to life as a vibrant hub of shops, restaurants, and culture. Sticks’n’Sushi, the Danish Japanese fusion chain known for its vibrant dining experiences, has opened yet another London location near the iconic power station. And true to form, this one is no ordinary sushi spot.

Bold flavours, minimal forms

Designed by OEO Studio, the Battersea location brings together bold colours, tactile textures, and a deep commitment to materials that tell a story. Anne-Marie Buemann, Managing Partner, at OEO Studios, has worked on two of Sticks’n’Sushi’s locations.

“Sticks’n’Sushi has a strong visual identity and communications platform that extends across its brand universe and all of its restaurants. The brand universe reflects the meeting of Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, with a focus on high-quality materials, bespoke solutions, and evocative details. We always take the location and cultural context into consideration, like for Battersea where we wanted to create a distinct dining destination with a vibrant and energetic ambience that connects to the surrounding area,” says Anne-Marie.

This careful blend of aesthetics and intention is seen throughout the restaurant’s material palette. From acoustic panels made of Danish eelgrass to composite furniture crafted from coffee shell waste and recycled plastic, every detail speaks to longevity and environmental mindfulness. “We are very conscious about our choice of materials and interior finishes, always carefully considering elements as durability, longevity and environmental impact,” Anne-Marie explains.

This ethos resonates perfectly with d line’s design DNA and focus on longevity. In the Battersea restaurant’s bathrooms, the design team chose minimal, highly functional pieces from d line’s Qtoo and Knud Holscher collections, including built-in sensor taps, flush plates, sanitary ware, pull handles and door hardware. Accessible bathrooms are fitted with d line’s barrier-free solutions, seamlessly integrating inclusive design without compromising on aesthetics.

We wanted to use a collection of architectural hardware and sanitaryware that is minimal, beautiful, and highly functional — and to be assured that the quality is second to none,” says Anne-Marie.

With the daily demands of a busy restaurant, durability is non-negotiable. d line’s products, crafted from marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel, stand up to frequent cleaning while maintaining their appearance. Backed by a 20-year guarantee and supported by d line’s Re-handle service, these are solutions designed for a long and sustainable lifecycle.

As Danish architect and industrial designer Knud Holscher expresses it himself: Modest design that is designed to last,” Anne-Marie adds.

At Sticks’n’Sushi Battersea, every element, from the menu to the materiality, is a celebration of craft, culture and conscious design, with d line quietly anchoring it all in enduring quality.
